Hope for the Holidays
My apartment is all ready for Christmas and with it, the expectation and hope that this season brings. (And yes, some mistletoe, too.)
It’s a magical season and yet it’s a difficult one because it tends to remind us of everything that’s missing- the baby we prayed for, the loved one who now celebrates in heaven, the prayers that have not seen their fulfillment on earth.
The breath of relief we receive from Christmas is the fact that no matter what is missing on earth, One Thing, (One Person I should say) is not. Jesus is our missing piece, our Savior, our Hope, our Promise fulfilled.
I used to hold on to this verse from the Christmas story in hopes that God might answer the deepest longings in my heart: “Blessed is she who believed that the Lord would fulfill His promises to her!” Luke 1:45 … As I have matured in my faith, I have learned that verse was never meant to promise me anything more than the greatest fulfillment of love God could give. The promise is this- Emmanuel- God with us. No matter what, no matter where, there is hope because He willingly came to save us.
Hope you celebrate in this indestructible joy alongside me whether you’ve decorated for the Holidays or not. You’re not alone this Christmas season and you have a Promise to hold on to.
XO,
Lex

One of my favorite pieces of art on my wall comes from Sister Grace Remington of the Sisters of the Mississippi Abbey. It hangs in my apartment year-round and is the perfect picture of God’s grace and redemption. You can find it here.
